Review
- The word collage is French meaning glue.
- Collages first emerged in China around200 BC, around when paper was invented.
- Collages reemerged in the 20th century
- Medieval Europe used gold leaf panels and gemstones in their documents and coats of arms.
- Discussed many types of collages, which we'll make in class. 3D, fabric, tissue, photomontage, and decoupage.
- Looked at our pieces from yesterday and discussed.
- George Braque and Pablo Picasso used the term Collage in the 20th century.
- Collages can be abstract, symmetry, minimal.
- Abstract: thought or idea with no physical or concrete existence
- Minimal: characterized by the use of simple or primary forms or structures, especially geometric or massive ones.
- Symmetrical: made up of exactly similar parts facing each other or around an axis; showing symmetry.
- Asymmetrical: having parts that fail to correspond to one another in shape, size, or arrangement; lacking symmetry.

- Remind students to be on the look out this week for items they can use in their collages; sticks, leaves, blocks, items found around the house, items found in the yard or at a store, items being reused, recycled, or being thrown away.
