Review


  • Students recap the history of 3D/ pop-out, fabric, photomontage, paper, and decoupage collages. 
  • Student discuss their favorite type of collage made, why it was their favorite, and where their inspiration comes from. 

Final Touches
Students allowed time to place any last minute touches on any of their art pieces so they are ready to place in the class art show. 

Art Gallery! 
Art Gallery Prep: Students to get class ready for the art show to begin at 11:30am. Students to move tables and chairs, hang their art pieces on the wall, use lights, table cloths, streamers, etc. to decorate the room. Create cards to vote the best piece in each category; best overall.

  • Looked at our pieces from Wednesday and discussed. 
Art History Lesson
Students will see examples of various 3D collages as well as learn of the origin and history of 3D collages. 

Creative Activities
Student begin creating their own 3D and Popout Collage utilizing the tools and skills learned in our lesson. Students are encouraged to use items collected from their yard, trash, home, etc. to incorporate into their art pieces.

Look Ahead to Tomorrow's Lesson
  • Finalize all projects and get ready for art gallery! 
  • Remind students to be on the look out this week for items they can use in their collages; sticks, leaves, blocks, items found around the house, items found in the yard or at a store, items being reused, recycled, or being thrown away.

Review

  • The word collage is French meaning glue. 
  • Collages first emerged in China around200 BC, around when paper was invented. 
  • Collages reemerged in the 20th century
  • Medieval Europe used gold leaf panels and gemstones in their documents and coats of arms.
  • Discussed many types of collages, which we'll make in class. 3D, fabric, tissue, photomontage, and decoupage. 
  • Looked at our pieces from yesterday and discussed. 
Art History Lesson
  • George Braque and Pablo Picasso used the term Collage in the 20th century.
  • Collages can be abstract, symmetry, minimal.
    • Abstract: thought or idea with no physical or concrete existence
    • Minimal: characterized by the use of simple or primary forms or structures, especially geometric or massive ones.
    • Symmetrical: made up of exactly similar parts facing each other or around an axis; showing symmetry.
    • Asymmetrical: having parts that fail to correspond to one another in shape, size, or arrangement; lacking symmetry.

Creative Collage Summer Camp Overview

Objective
Create your own art piece with collage! A collage is an artistic technique in which students take different types of materials and form them all into one collaborative piece of art. Combining paper, buttons, ribbons, beads and recyclable materials to create a unique works of art.

Introduction
Welcome to the first day of camp! Our purpose is to learn about the history of collages while creating several collages from a variety of materials. 

Class Structure and Expectations 
  • Discussion of how each class during camp will go, what the instructor expects out of the students, and what the students are to expect from the instructor. 
  • Students must bring required material and follow all instructions.

Quick student survey that goes over students food and science interest and experience.
  • What type of collages are their favorite, have they made a collage, and what their interest/passions.are. 
Art History Lesson 
  • Review the history of collages, including the origins and reemergence of collages in the 20th century, as well as the various types of collages (paper, 3D, fabric, etc.). 
  • Learn about various types of paper collages; tissue, newspaper, old books, etc. See various examples of types of paper collages and gain inspiration from the pieces. Discuss various artistic aspects of each paper collage so student can incorporate int heir own creation.
Creative Activity  

  • Discuss potential collage subjects, ideas, inspiration, goals, artistic approach (abstract, symmetry, minimal, etc.), and objectives. 
  • Student to begin creating their own paper collage utilizing the tools and skills learned in our lesson.
